Can you give us a preview of your talk?

My talk is about persuading job seekers to "Follow Your Dreams, Not the Money" and prioritize applying for openings they're passionate about and not just ones that pay more. Job satisfaction leads to higher career retention and advancement for professionals and can contribute to long-term benefits and opportunities.

What does courage mean to you?

Courage means having the internal strength to make tough decisions, especially when they may go against the grain or be unpopular. It takes courage to not follow the crowd and go your own way. you cannot be innovative and make changes without challenging the status quo, and that means having the bravery to suggest new ideas, to possibly be wrong, and open yourself up to criticism.

What life experiences inspired your talk?

While working for Harvard University's Admissions Office, I would see students enroll in classes as a freshman and change majors several times over the course of their studies or graduate into a field they were not passionate about and struggle to find work. I realized many people, especially young professionals, value following the money over following their dreams, much to their own detriment.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced in developing your talk?

The most challenging aspect I'm currently navigating is condensing the hours of content I could be delivering and compressing it into a ten minute speech. It's an incredible opportunity I cannot wait to share with the TEDx community!

What is your "Why?” in life?

My “Why” in life is wanting to leave the world better than what I found it. Help where you can, fill your own cup, and pay it forward.

What is your favorite way to rest and unwind?

My favorite way to rest and unwind is reading a book by the water in the sun.

What do you appreciate most about D.C. culture & community?

Being our nation's capital, I love the eclectic mix of professionals who've traveled to the city to make a difference, including those who are politically-minded, business-oriented, and socially active. The wide range of lived experiences is amazing to witness firsthand, and I can honestly say, you never know what story you'll be a part of while walking along the street.

Why are you excited to be a speaker at 2025 TEDxLogan Circle?

Who wouldn't be excited?! I am ecstatic to share the stage with so many other incredible speakers with moving topics and am hopeful my speech reaches those who need to hear it, and feel compelled to "follow their dreams, not the money," after hearing it.
