What does the Washington D.C. community mean to you?
As a national civic organization dedicated to representing the Korean American community and fostering connections with other communities, the Washington D.C. area is pivotal. It is a crucial hub, reflecting the diverse cultures and interest groups of the United States and the world. Furthermore, it stands at the heart of national and international political power. In this dynamic community, the Council of Korean Americans (CKA) can effectively communicate and engage with numerous groups and organizations, efficiently sharing CKA's core mission and the unique perspectives of Korean Americans.
What fun facts may your fans and customers be surprised to learn about?
The inception of the Council of Korean Americans (CKA) was inspired by a community project contest held 15 years ago by the leadership training program, NetKAL (Network of Korean American Leaders). Although the proposal didn't win the contest, securing only second place, it resonated deeply with many in the audience. They recognized the potential and significance of establishing a national organization like CKA. Moved by the idea, several audience members voluntarily provided financial support to kickstart the initiative.
Over the next decade, CKA flourished, growing in influence and capacity. Its remarkable journey came full circle when it eventually merged with and absorbed the NetKAL program, exemplifying the power of community-driven vision and commitment.
Another fact fact: CKA stands as the sole national, multisector, leadership-focused Korean American organization in the United States. Our diverse membership, which includes individuals living outside the U.S., spans across various fields such as entertainment, entrepreneurship, law, and art. We take pride in how CKA highlights the rich diversity within our community and the numerous ways our members make meaningful contributions to the broader society, both in the U.S. and globally.

Why do you think highlighting community innovators is important?
Showcasing the experiences of innovators not only highlights diverse talents and stories but also shatters stereotypes, connects ideas, and inspires fresh perspectives. Often, the most creative minds lack a platform to share their insights. Forums like TEDx amplify these voices, extending their reach to broader communities and igniting society-wide innovation.
How is your company rethinking innovation?
The Council of Korean Americans (CKA) is pioneering new pathways in innovation by uniting experts, thought leaders, and key decision-makers from various sectors, industries, geographies, and generations. Our goal is to address and conquer the challenges and opportunities faced by our community.
By incorporating a broad spectrum of individuals from diverse disciplines and backgrounds into our programming, we foster greater creativity and expansive thinking. We firmly believe that genuine innovation and inventive problem-solving ignite at the intersection of different communities.
Moreover, we understand that innovation flourishes within a foundation of trust, relationships, and friendship. Human connection is essential, and innovators perform optimally when they engage collectively—channeling their intellect, emotions, and spirits into collaborative problem-solving and brainstorming. CKA is committed to creating an environment where diversity fuels creativity, and unity drives progress.
