Portraits by Jared Wolfe

Jared Wolfe founded Portraits by Jared Wolfe 8 years ago in Alexandria and opened his Dupont location in 2022. He does corporate, professional and acting headshots, especially for LinkedIn, helping people feel more confident and professionally aligned during their professional transitions.

“Headshots are an advertisement for your application, he explains. The better headshot you have, the better you feel and the better first impression you give”. My role consists in helping people advance their career, he adds, and I’m pretty excited about it!

When he is not busy taking pictures, Jared likes exploring the Dupont-Logan Circle neighborhood; the Farmers Market in Dupont Circle on Sundays, and TEDxLogan Circle events, are among his favorite activities there.

What does courage mean to you?

To me, courage is: facing uncertainties, challenges. Life is not always the way it is on social media where things are perfect. We all face different challenges, whether they are financial or mental, or coming from all sorts of things going on in life. Sometimes, you need courage to get up everyday, face these challenges, work through them, even when you don’t see the solution or the bright light at the end of the tunnel. You have to stumble through the dark until you start to get through some of these tougher times.

The last time you felt courageous?

As a business owner, you always face challenges and all kinds of things you need to be courageous about to get through. Opening this place here in Dupont Circle looks like a courageous act to me. There are a lot of risks, investments and uncertainties involved. At the beginning, you don’t know what to expect from this new space. But you just go for it, go through the steps, see what kind of challenges you have to face, push through those difficulties and do your best.

How important is community collaboration to you?

Being in business, your whole business exists to help other people and to solve people’s certain problems. So you have to always be connected to people, and be aware of what is going on around you. Lifewise, if you are going through your own challenges, being part of a community, you can find people who can help you. It’s definitely a mutual relationship.

What are you looking forward to about renewing your partnership with TEDxLogan Circle?

I really look forward to new networking opportunities and to meeting interesting people. Also, I really liked the main event last year (2024). It was very well-organized. There were a lot of sponsors and good food. I was very impressed with the speakers: they made me think of innovation in a way I didn’t think was possible. I loved it.

Something else you want to tell people?

I would definitely encourage people to come out to TEDxLogan Circle and listen to the speakers. Last year, I was very impressed with the speakers. It’s a very good networking event, very well-organized: the people who show up to TEDxLogan Circle to watch the event tend to be interesting and very educated people, involved in the community, as well. They are good people to meet.
