Meet Heather Hutt

As an award-winning producer and editor, Heather Hutt brings emotional resonance to every project at Make a Scene Media, that she cofounded. She’s seen it all in the television and film industry.

Heather and her business partner, Taylor Kampia, have been helping out with TEDx for 2 years now. They capture stories behind the scenes.

“As story amplifiers, we contribute to lifting up the stories of our community".

Make a Scene Media is a video production company that helps small businesses and nonprofits with video content and video digital marketing strategy. They develop, produce, and share award-winning videos that help further the missions of the organizations they collaborate with. They transform apathy and unawareness into engagement and action through impactful and professionally made video content.

To learn more about it, our team member Caroline Sainsard met with Heather at Industrious, in Spring 2025.

How does your business make an impact on your community?

It’s through story telling, through sharing personal stories that people find connections, come together, build community and also tackle problems that need to be solved. Making an impact on our communities is what motivates us.

What's your impact on your clients?

For the NGOs: educate the community, raise awareness on the issues they are trying to talk about, but also build more partnerships, raise more money, and do more good in the world. For the small and medium businesses: by telling the stories of founders, talking about company culture and values, they can create the trust with customers that helps them reach exponential success.

Tell us more about your collaboration with TEDxLogan Circle

I love this collaboration because TEDxLogan Circle really tries to make it feel like a community effort. That’s more than just a single day, more than a marketing of a license of the TEDx name. I like that people are energized and feel good walking away, feeling like they are part of something. I really love that energy that TEDx brings.

What did you take away from last year's TEDxLogan Circle main event?

Everyone was affected in a different way by what the speakers were saying. And it helped me see each speech in a different way. Because then you start to see the ripple effects of what sharing people’s personal experiences can have on a wider community.

This year’s theme is “Rethink Courage”. What does that mean to you?

I think it started with, a few years ago, when I was reading Brené Brown. For me, everybody has to find courage every day to be vulnerable in order to accomplish many things. And so, as much as there is a superhero aspect to courage, I think there is actually a lot of it in being vulnerable.

What do you like the most in the Logan Circle and Dupont Circle neighborhoods?

Malcolm X Park, also known as Meridian Hill. There is a long-standing drum circle there, the longest park permit in the nation. Every Sunday, the drummers get together and play their incredible music. Everybody has to go check it out at some point.

Anything you'd like to add?

We're working with several artists in the area to document the drumming experience and the culture of the drum circle. So if you are interested in anything like this, reach out to Make a Scene Media because we are always looking for partners.

A big thank you to Heather for this great conversation! You can watch the full video on our Instagram and Youtube pages. And a huge shoutout to Make a Scene Media for providing TEDxLogan Circle with wonderful videos that will inspire our speakers and the audience, on August 14, 2025.
